The Learning Curve
Three weeks into this tennis lesson thing and I feel like I have hit a wall, or should I say, hit the net? Armed with the Babolat AeroPro Drive Cortex I went into the lesson with confidence. I was in a great mood and ready to play the best tennis of my life. Unfortunately, this did not happen. From the first swing I knew something was terribly wrong. Was it the wind? Was it the heat? Sunscreen in the eyes? I’m not sure. All I know is that I felt as if I had never played tennis before.
As I took instruction from the oh-so-patient VLOG man, I tried to keep a mental note of all of the things I needed to focus on. First off, my footwork; it was terrible. The adidas CC Divine II shoes I was wearing looked and felt great, but there seemed to be a disconnect between my feet and my head. Somewhere in my tennis past I was taught, unknowingly, to step into my swing with the wrong foot. Something as basic as changing this pattern seemed to be very difficult for me. Each time I would line up for a groundstroke I would take a mental note of where my feet were and try to take the small steps necessary to line up correctly. Lost in deep concentration I began to ignore all of the other aspects of my game that needed help. I felt as if I had tennis A.D.D. Not only did I look like I had two left feet, I was swinging the racquet like a monkey making little progress. This was not a good day.
I am learning that this game, as frustrating as it may be, is truly addicting. The more I play, the more I want to learn. The more I learn, the more I want to play. With the help of the VLOG man, I am confident I will conquer days like this.
Wish me luck,
Hayley

When you need a practice partner let me know. I’m not good but I love to play.
Hi Hayley,
The answer is very simple…………you cannot play tennis and use your cell phone at the same time :)
