US Open – The Betting Line. Vol. 2

Just in the nick of time, here are our women’s picks.

WOMEN’S PICKS

Chris

Fav: Venus Williams. Don’t you worry about her 2nd round loss to Kateryna Bondarenko at the Rogers Cup, Venus will be ready to play at Flushing Meadows. Seems like Venus plays like Venus only during Major championships. Odds: 4-1

DH: Kim Clijsters. The comeback kid has made quite an impressive run in 2009. Random side note: does anything rhyme with Clijsters? I couldn’t think of anything. Odds: 29-1

Jason

Fav: Dinara Safina. This is her chance to prove all the naysayers wrong. She can do it! She will win her first Grand Slam! Do I really believe that? Not really. But she’s my pick, so I gotta back her. Odds: 9-1

DH: Ana Ivanovic. How far the mighty have fallen. Maybe too many photo shoots, not enough practice? I’m just sayin’. Odds: 16-1

Hayley

Fav: Elena Dementieva. There is no other WTA player who hits better groundstrokes than her. None. Yeah, I said it. Odds: 8-1

DH: Amelie Mauresmo. What is there to say about her that hasn’t already been said about Tommy Haas? Well, I’ll tell ya: both have 1 handed backhands, both have been sponsored by Dunlop, both play for Head now, both are probably past their primes and when Tommy had a ponytail, they looked like they were separated at birth. Odds: 32-1

Spencer

Fav: Victoria Azarenka. Enjoys listening to hip-hop. Let’s hope at The Open she is more 3008 and not so much 2000 and late. Shout out to the Black Eyed Peas! Odds: 12-1

DH: Maria Sharapova. She has reached the quarters, the semis and the finals in the last three tournaments she’s entered. If her shoulder can hold up, she will go far. Odds: 14-1

Kana

Fav: Serena Williams. She was recently quoted as saying, “We all know who the real No. 1 is.” And I think we do. Odds: 3-1

DH: Samantha Stosur. Playing the best tennis of her life right now. She’s bringing the thunda from down unda! She’s Australian. Get it? Throw another shrimp on the barbie! Odds: 20-1

Tiffani

Fav: Svetlana Kuznetsova. After her French Open win, she is limping into the US Open. Literally. I’m not going to lie, I’m not liking this pick. Odds: 19-1

DH: Sorana Cirstea. Her coming out party was at Roland Garros. I question her pet choices. Two parrots? Really?! I digress. I like this pick; she’ll make it deep into week 1 and perhaps into week 2. Odds: 23-1

So that’s it. Enjoy watching the final Major of the year; I know we’ll be keeping a close eye on The Open. Is there going to be another Melanie Oudin or Sorana Cirstea? Will there be some unseen upsets? Or will the top players reign supreme? No matter what happens, let’s just hope that I win that cold tasty beverage.

Jason, TW
